Bank of America Tower

Bank of America Tower

Miami

Built in 1987 by I.M. Pei, FAIA.

This distinctive 47-story tower is variously lit at night in emplematic colors of the season. Facing southeast, the quadrant-shaped layers of the upper structure descend to an elaborately conceived terrace over the 10-story parking garage. The terrace level includes a marble-lined sky-lobby whose plate-glass windows open to a sweeping view of the city. Below, the parking garage structure is faced with taut aluminum screens that mimic the horizontal striations of the curtain wall above. A helicopter pad on the roof, a symbol of the go-go 1980’s has been abandoned.
