Concha Marina
Palm Beach
Built in 1926 by Addison Mizner; 1995 Addition by The Smith Architectural Group.
|
A Mediterranean Revival house designed by Addison Mizner in 1921. After living in it for one season, Mizner sold the house to George and Elizabeth Dodge Sloane. The Sloanes hired Marion Sims Wyeth to add a library, a pavilion, and a two bedroom guest wing, which transformed the house from an “L” shape to “U” shaped. Maurice Fatio was hired in the 30s to continue with expansions and renovations. Although the house has been altered over the course of time, it is a good example of how a Palm Beach house has evolved through the influence of different architects working in the same idiom. Each architect enhanced the pre-existing composition.
