Playball Pavilion
Sarasota
Built in 2011.
Designed by Sweet Sparkman Architects.

This 2,600 square foot covered shelter and restroom pavilion was constructed for $77.00/square foot to consolidate and replace several aging structures for a local community park that serves host to intramural baseball and kickball.
A covered picnic area with an adjacent multi-purpose room and restrooms provides a panoramic view of the ball field. Designed for family use, the fireplace (used also as a barbecue grill) is expressed as a tower which anchors into a low seating wall. This wall subtly separates picnicking and game spectators allowing families to enjoy the game while enjoying the park facilities. Simplicity of design played a large role in the development of this building concept. The simple wedge shape profile was adapted from the utilitarian dugout shelters that currently exist on site.
